Beautiful and historical hotel but needs to be updated badly!!!!
The Camino Real is a gorgeous hotel. The bar with the Tiffany Glass dome is worth the cost of staying there. BUT....for some reason this hotel has failed to be updated, the place is falling apart here and there. We stayed there 3 nights and the elevator wasnt working the whole time. The restrooms are dimly lit and kinda sad looking. The sheets were really rough and scratchy and the bedroom decor needs to be mondernized. But I can go on and on about the bar, and the nightlife there...good times!!!!

Stay at the Doubletree
I was looking forward to staying at the Camino Real, due to its landmark status in El Paso. Unfortunately, theres a difference between historic and antiquated... Although the lobby and bar are impressive, the rooms are in dire need of updates; old bed, old TV, old furniture/lighting. The bathroom is particularly poor; from the leaky toilet to the corroded shower/tub fixtures. I had orignally booked one evening. When I decided to stay two, I asked that they match the same rate I was paying. I was informed that it was an internet rate and that they couldnt match it. My response was that, if they couldnt honor the same rate, Id likely transfer to the Doubletree a few blocks away. They made absolutelty no attempt to maintain my business. I transferred to the Doubletree and was very impressed. The room was spectacular; complete renovation, plasma TV, deluxe bed, great bathroom; all for the same price as the Camino. There is absolutely no chance that we would stay at the Camino Real again, unless the Doubletree was booked. Even then, wed likely look for another option.

Stay away!
Dont know what has happened to this hotel - certainly not typical of other Camino Real properties. Dont bother - head for the Doubletree down the street.
