very friendly hotel, good location
I have just returned from 3 days in Venice with my son aged 14. We had a great fun exploring by foot , taking in the many stunning vistas and relaxing a bit too. Hotel Pausania was in a brilliant location, 10 minutes walk from the bus car park, 15 minutes to St Marks and 10 minutes to the Zattere- a lovely wide causeway with water lapping alongside. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful if asked for advice. The breakfast was very adequate- cold buffet, but plenty of choice and available until 10.30- ideal for those travelling with sleepy teenagers! There is a very comfortable sitting area upstairs, but no garden ( I thought there might be from the pictures) Beware mosquitos even n late October- wish I packed some repellant.

Lovely old building in a great area
The Hotel Pausania is an old building with an external staircase in the Dorsoduro are. It’s near the University, so it isn’t too touristy and there are lots of decent bars around. The restaurants, as everywhere in Venice, are hugely over-priced for what they offer. The staff are generally pleasant, the rooms are a bit small. Room 301 has a skylight bu no window.
Traveller's tip
If you are flying Alitalia via Rome, only take cabin luggage. They managed to lose our suitcase both going out and coming back!

Charming hotel and peaceful location.
Hotel Pausania is a very pleasant oasis of peace after a day walking around the crowded St Marks/Rialto area. The hotel is freshly decorated in venetian style, and the exotic Murano chandeliers are quite stunning! Breakfast is delightful - a cold buffet with a choice of cereals, delicious meats and cheeses and excellent coffee.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If visiting the Doge’s Palace, book the "Secret Itineraries Tour" to see behind the scenes in the attics where the Secret Service ruled Venice-fascinating! Important to book in advance as places are limited.
