Nice and affordable
Really affordable. You get the necessary for a comfortable, lovely stay if you are in a limited budget. Great for family escapes and center located to many atractions for all ages.
Traveller's tip on dining
The bakery across the street is really nice and the food is delicious. Complimentary breakfast there was ok.

Lacked Customer Service
The Howard Johnson in Mayaguez was very clean; however, I did encounter some inconveniences. Mainly, the customer service was terrible. Now, I am aware that this hotel is not in the US and I shouldn’t expect the exact same treatment, but it is the Howard Johnson and the employees should be trained to perform in the same manner as all others. The front desk clerk had a friend that is not an employee sitting with her when I arrived. She was polite, but then was unable to change my bed request from 1 queen to 2 beds. The next clerk I dealt with was rude and on the phone when I arrived at the desk, and also refused to help me make the change. Then the television in the room began giving me problems, and the gentleman I spoke with simply said, "I don’t know how to handle that." He did not provide a solution at all. Luckily, I was able to fix the television myself. Other than these issues, my stay was very pleasant.
