Home away from home

We had a two bedroom two bathroom condo at the Ventura Holiday Rentals. The unit was very nice and we even had free international and national phone calls. The only problem we had was that if you wanted to use the gym there was a $60 charge ($25 refundable). A pool pass was $1 per person. The pool area near the clubhouse was beautiful, as was the golf course and all the surrounding area. It was perfect for our stay and we will definitely return.

Winter Park is a very upmarket town about 20 minutes from the condo. We really enjoyed taking a boat trip around the lakes and canals (on the hour from 10-4 $12 an adult) and visiting the Tiffany stainglass museum. We also loved the SAK comedy family show in downtown Orlando (5 nights a week).

Great customer service

First, there are some things people need to know that people may not be aware of until they call this property 3 days prior to the check in as explained by hotels.com. The Down Side: 1. If you arrive after 10 PM, you are assessed a $20.00 fee for every hour after 10 that you come in. That information wasn’t on hotels.com, I was informed of their policy when I called 3 days prior. 2. As referenced by another user, there are also cleaning and resort fees you will pay depending on how big of a property you have rented and for how long. It would be very convenient and beneficial to customers if it was included in the hotels.com rate. 3. When you rent a property, you just don’t know what the property looks like until you get there. As long as the reservation states how many people can sleep to a property, you’ll at least be assured that there are that many places to sleep, not necessarily the types of beds you’ll get or how luxurious a property will be. 4. The first property we checked into was secured with a type of lock I had never seen. Unfortunately as we tried to settle into our initial rental my husband did a security check. He was able to get in and out of that condo without a lock combination whatsoever. A window was left open. Had he not checked the entire place, it might have stayed open all night. There was also a putty knife just left out in the bushes that my husband found. It just felt very creepy. 5. Over all, the initial condo was in a bad area behind a McDonald’s drive through with the view of the dumpster and a highway. It wasn’t at all what I had been reading on here about the properties in Kissimmee. They had cleaned the whole place but the smell of bleach was overwhelming. The masterbath had a black moldy gunk around the drain. Even after it was bleached, it was still there. So, our initial property got a 1 in over all appearance and comfort. Positives: 1. The number one thing about Ventura was the customer service. The young lady who checked us in was so sweet even as late as it was when we came in. Then as the lock issue was brought to her attention, she was very attentive and helped us get the problem fixed. Customer service was outstanding. 2. The lock issue was resolved by moving us to a new condo a few miles closer to WDW and only a few miles up from the initial property. It was much closer to shopping for daily necessities and the look and feel of the new place was much more comfortable and homey than the original one. It was warm and inviting and felt like a home away from home. The upgrade included an extra room that happened to be a game room and a hot tub on the back porch. 3. Check out was convenient. You can leave your keys in a specific location for them to pick up and you can be on your way without having to drive back to their check in office locatioin to drop off keys. They didn’t overlook even the small details like giving us a courtesy call about the check out time. We were already out of the property, but it was nice to have that level of customer care. Overall, the only downside is you don’t know what you’ll get until you get there. Had the lock not been broken, we would’ve been stuck in a condo that we hated all week long. The upside is that the level of customer service you will get is excellent. For the money we paid, the first property wasn’t worth it. The second was more than worth it. Our satisfaction ratings are based on the second property. The condition and maintenance of the hotel was based on the fact that the first property was lousy and the second one was great. To be fair we gave them a 3.
