Recommend with reservations
The room is good-sized by European standard and well appointed, breakfast buffet is excellent, and location is convenient but be prepared to look for your room on your own while hauling your heavy luggage thru hallways with steps and split levels, if you’re checking in for the weekend. There’s no attendant or bell boy service during this period because the hotel is not busy enough to warrant this service, I was told. The front desk staff is rather cold, unwelcoming and not helpful.

Excellent Hotel near historic centre
Internazionale is a lovely hotel much more impressive on the inside than its small entrance suggests. There is nice bar open all afternoon and evening, although there is no restaurant. The breakfast buffet is the usual european offering but good none theless and, unlike lots of hotels these days the coffee is freshly made to order! The lcation is ideal, being a half mile walk from Piazza Maggiore under covered porticos. The only drawback was the room seemd excessively warm and the air con seemed fairly feeble - we had to sleep with the windows wide open - in October!
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Morning coffee in the Piazza Maggiore was a delight. The open top bus tours are good for orientation and introduction to Bologna - 10 euros for all day on a hop on-hop off basis. Look for the GTP bus stops, there is one opposite the station and one on near Arena Sole just down from the hotel on Via Della Indipendenza.

Would like to go back again sometime.
The hotel was excellent and also the location. It was in the old city centre which has great architecture. It is within easy access to the train station. The city bus (No 20)runs from the airport to the central train station. It stops yards from the front door of the hotel. There is a wide variety of good shops and places to eat next to the hotel.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
There is a famous pizza take away yards up from the hotel which sells slices of delicous newly baked pizza for 1.50 euros. This helps offset the cost of eating out in the restaurant in the evening.
