Needs a cash injection
This hotel is in a breath taking location in the Serra De Agua mountain gorge. The hotel is located at the top of a very steep mountain road that winds its way from the coast right up into the mountains. The view is fantastic but the hotel is showing its age. The rooms are badly lit, with very basic amenities all of which indicate that they desperately need to be refurbished. The quality of the food is reasonable although a little unusual combinations of vegetables etc. The evening meals are a little pricey and the quality varies. The staff are great, they all speak English well and very very helpful. Because of the location, you will definitely require a hire car. There is a bus service but they are not that frequent.
The top of the list is make sure you have access to a car when staying at this hotel. The roads are very steep and the roads are often very narrow so very low gears required. Best places to eat are down near the Lido in Funchal, plenty of choices and the standard is good.
