Wyndam on Forbes

Greatly improved since last stay. Walkable to CMU and UPITT. The last time I stayed at this Wyndam it the whole floor smelled stale with the odor of tobacco. Apparently management got the information and changed the policy to NO SMOKING only which was a good decision. Will stay there next again in February.

I have been to Pittsburgh several times since 2005. It is an old industrial city trying to make an economic revival. I find the city to be friendly but expensive and difficult to navigate. Pittsburgh residents are amiable but fanatical about their sports teams, not necessarily a negative attribute. The airport is modern and navigable once you know your way around, and flights have always been on-time or early. Hotel rooms are generally over-priced if you wish to stay in or near the Oakland area where it is convenient to CMU and UPitt. If your trip coincides with a UPITT or Steelers game, hotel rooms can be dear and significantly over-priced. Hotel rooms outside of the Oakland area are generally too far away to be convenient and commutable within a reasonable amount of time. The airport is over 30 miles away and will take over 1:15 minutes for you to commute by bus to the Oakland area due to the route making several stops at a large Community Town Center. Hotels in the Oakland area do not offer bus service to the airport.

Nice but parking a problem

I loved this hotel. Great rooms and service. However I did not know that you had to pay to put your car in the valet parking garage. Also the pillows were way to fat for me. However I am glad I stayed there because it was close to Carnegie Mellon and I could walk there. There were lots of places to eat within walking distance also.

Great hotel close to University of Pitt

Had a great experience. Rooms were nice, hotel was clean and staff were friendly and willing to help

If you are a have of sushi or Japanese steak houses you should try Nakama in South Side for Japanese Hibachi or Umis in Shady Side for sushi. They are a little pricey but well worth it.
