Fantastic neighbourhood location
We stayed here for the last few days of our tour of California. We loved the traditional motel style and the surrounding area had a real neighbourhood feel to it. The nearest bar The City Tavern had a daily happy hour that seemed to last all evening, and there were some great restaurants nearby too. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and our room, although a little colourful was very clean and the bed very comfortable.

Not bad at all!
I liked this hotel although it is far from the main attractions at Union Square. Public transport though is very good but also very slow. Its fine if you have plenty of time to factor in getting around. Would better to stay here if you have a car. The hotel is in a great neighborhood close to plenty of restaurants, bars, banks and cute shops. As a girl traveling alone, I always felt safe and people are very approachable if you need directions. The staff were really helpful though a bit slow if you need something sent to your room (had to call twice for hairdryer). However, for information requests and cabs - they were brilliant. Room was fine, tiny bathroom (good shower) but it had a walk-in closet and really comfy bed. Hotel has only one elevator and its motel-style floors mean you may have to lug your suitcase up/down a few stairs and although it was fairly quiet, the metal walkways mean that you can hear people passing your room. I never had trouble getting to sleep though. Overall, a fine hotel.
Give yourself time to explore this great city - theres so much to see and do. Great shops on Union Street which is really close to the hotel and also around Lombard/Fillmore. Flagging cabs is not so easy, especially at night. Get a taxi number when you get there and call one when you need it, or head into any restaurant/hotel and ask them to get you one.

well located and comfortable but noisy
the location was great close to chestnut and union. easy walk to marina. The room was clean and comfortable but we were on the second floor and the people on the third floor were constantly walking back and forth for a large part of the night. we complained but they were still very noisy. Suggest you stay on the third floor to avoid this.
