The poor service here added to the run-down ambiance of this place
Being formerly from Coventry, I was looking forward to going to stay in Allesley but I should have been alerted by the seemingly cheap deal I was getting. The Allesley Hotel is desperately in need of some investment to bring it in to the new century. The reception area smelt musty and my room was badly in need of updating. The bathroom was like something out of the 80s and the cracked shower tray topped it off. As a solo female traveller I generally order room service, which here was limited especially for a vegetarian. Although the hotel was seemingly empty, I waited over for an hour for a pizza. It arrived soon after I chased up reception and resembled a cheap Tesco frozen pizza. A disappointing stay which I will not repeat.

TIRED AND IN NEED OF REFURBISHMENT
On leaving the reception area and walking towards our allocated room my immediate impression was of a hotel in need of refurbishment. On entering the room the first thing you saw was a piece of black gaffer tape covering the join in the carpet in the middle of the room. This tape did not cover the full extent of the carpet joint which was badly thread bare and in an appalling state. Black mildew was evident on the ceiling and yellow water staines on the polestyrene roof panels were quite off putting. The room was initially cold with the window being fully open obviously in an attempt to air the room from the damp smell within. The en-suite was also in need of repair with again black mildew marks on all walls. The following morning on checking that nothing had been left behind by my children I found five empty Fosters lager cans in the clothing drawers left by previous occupants. Carpet did not appear to have been hoovered although the bed linen was checked and was fresh. The double bed and two single beds of the family room were obviously in need of replacement as they were very soft and tired. Due to the lateness of our arrival at the hotel and early departure I did not complain at the time but did mention to reception staff that the room had not been prepared thoroughly. I would not return to this hotel and was very disappointed with it. To sum up my 10 year old son remarked Its not very nice here Dad I hope the next hotel is better.
