Don’t colonize the Colonies

This hotel is in a back street near the Place Royal. That is about the best thing I can say for it. The bedspread was stained. The lighting was poor. The hand held shower was broken and never fixed while I was there. The shower stall was the size of a small phone booth - you couldn’t bend over, the opening was about 10 inches across. The wireless service was weak and spotty. Breakfast was extra - I didn’t have it but payment was demanded as I checked out. You had to get a code to open the outer door at night as the lobby wasn’t staffed. When I asked for a bill to demonstrate my stay for reimbursement from my employer, they refused. The elevator should be a thrill ride at an amusement park. When my local host found out where I was staying, he said: "That place is a dump." If this is a two star hotel, I pity anyone who has to stay in a one star.

Traveller's tip on dining

La Cigale is one of the most interesting interiors I have ever seen plus the food is good. Le Square (near the convention center) has very good food, but the wine list needs pruning. Our best dinner was in the delightful Baron Lefèbvre which was also near the Cite Congress. Great food, wonderful wine list and delightful proprietress and waitstaff. It is in an old warehouse that packed food for shipment. The decoration is as interesting as the food.
