Recommended for New Orleans

Good value at one of the better hotels in New Orleans near the French Quarter. Small but pretty room with nice bath Friendly service. Quiet. Only problem is parking -- about $38/day (with tax and without tip.)

Fantastic time in New Orleans

The International House is 2 blocks from the French Quarter in a safe location. The staff at the hotel were very helpful. There was no ice in our room, but there was a small fridge. But the desk would send up ice any time it was needed. The ’room’ was actually a suite with a large living area, separate (large) bedroom and a bathroom with a shower that was really a wet room. " large flat screen TVs with huge channel choice, DVD player and P3 player also in room. Oddly, there was no drawer space, but plenty of hanging space - this wasn’t a problem for a three night stay, although the desk did offer to put a chest of drawers in for us! Decor and artwork was eclectic, as it is throughout the hotel. There is free internet access in the lobby and (I think) there is also free wireless access. All in all, we had a fantastic time here and would highly recommend (New Orleans is also well worth a visit generally).

Acme Oyster Bar - just off Bourbon Street - is justifiably busy and there was a line outside whenever we passed. But we only waited about 8-10 minutes at lunchtime and it was worth it. A dozen oysters with a cheese based source were delicious and good value at about $18.
