30 days across the big pond

I just returned from a 30 day trip starting in the UK and visited France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands by car. I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of my excursion for three days and on the final two days upon return to London for the flight back to Philadelphia, The hotel was very classy, had great food in its restaurant and I had a very comfortable stay. The location was close to the Underground for exploring London and very close to various museums. Harrods was about a mile away. The staff was courteous and friendly. I highly recommend the Vanderbilt.

Absolutely wonderful

This hotel was gorgeous, offered a delicious free breakfast every morning, and our room was perfect. When I booked this hotel I expected a "so so" kind of place but didnt mind because I didtn plan on being there much anyway. Well, if this is only a "decent hotel" then the 5 star hotels in London must have gold plated toilets or something ;) People have complained that the rooms here are very small- but ours was perfectly wonderful with high ceilings and huge windows that filled the room with natural light. The room wasn’t gigantic, but we were perfectly content- if you need a hotel room with a separate living room and kitchen, this isn’t for you. It is literally 2 minutes to the nearest tube stop which was PERFECT- we got everywhere we needed in no time. 10 minute walk to GORGEOUS Hyde Park and literally a block from about 5 FREE museums I highly recommend this hotel- especially at the fantastic Expedia price, you can’t lose. Wow, I sound like a commercial, but I truly loved it here.

Recommended, but with Reservations...

I had all sorts of problems with this hotel- from being given a room on the smoking floor, (when I’d asked for non-smoking), to plumbing issues, to the interminably slow lift (seven minutes one count), the hassle of the key card to operate lift, doors and lights, sporadic TV reception and beds placed between a slightly raised ledge (conveniently placed to bark shoulders, arms, elbows) and rock hard wall to bang your head on. On the other hand, it’s a nice facility, extremely clean, marble baths and bath sheet size towels, intercom for the TV (if it works), free Wi-Fi, and location that can’t be beat, less than a minute from Gloucester Rd tube. Many restaurants, museums and pubs are nearby. The adjacent restaurant and bar is excellent and accommodating. Book this hotel only if you get a great rate, and get a room on the ground or first floor to avoid the lift.

All of London’s sites are worth a lifetime of travel. One of the best ways to see London ’off the beaten path’ is The Original London Walks tours.
