Pictures are deceiving
Great location, however, the room was very old. When we walked into the room, there was a terrible odor. We called maintenance (who came right away) who discovered there was stagnant water in the drain, hence the smell. He came back with some spray to mask the smell but it never totally went away. Also, the second window never opened, the handle was missing. Just be careful youre not in the older section of the hotel because youll have nothing but problems.

great buffet breakfast
The hotel was well located, was clean and reasonably priced. Best of all was the breakfast which obviated the need for lunch. Not many places serve free bucks fizz at breakfast

Excellent location for visiting Berlin
This hotel was very well situated for visiting all tourist sights just a few minutes walk from the zoo and for all transport links- very easy to walk also to local attractions and shops. The hotel was close to many local restaurants for evening meals. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide selection - I had been attracted to this hotel because of the reviews- and it was true- there was champagne and chocolate cake for breakfast!! The rooms were comfortable if a little worn but certainly 3 star quality. The only downside was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities- water was provided but beware- we were charged 5 euros per bottle- there was no warning of this and in all other hotels I have stayed in water has been provided free.
If you want to visit the Sachsenhausen camp this is easily undertaken on the underground but the journey takes about 60-90 minutes so give yourself plenty of time - this is a haunting experience. Also dont forget to view the wall- the Berlin guides tend to direct you to the museums and galleries but the best gallery is the East Side Gallery which is a 1.2 kilometre length of wall covered with works of art!!! Free to view. The zoo is also an experience not to be missed - the number 100 bus goes past most of the famous sites and this also provides a safe way to view the sites when illuminated at night . Get a day pass for bus and underground - this is exceptional value. We never felt threatened or unsafe - this feels a very safe city.
