Great location

We stayed in this hotel the first night we arrived to Athens. The room was very small, very simple, with very old furniture and old TV but clean. However, we had an outstanding view of the Acropolis from our little balcony. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast from the terrace facing the Acropolis. The hotel is centrally located in the Plaka area and walking distance to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum. The hotel itself is old and overpriced for what it offers but the location and the view paid it off.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Plaka area has a lot of small shops and cafes. The hotel is very close to Monasteraki area and the metro station.

Recommended with reservations

I stayed in this hotel for four days in early July while waiting to transfer to a friend’s apartment in Faliro. My fourth visit to Greece. The staff were nice and helpful. The breakfast was adequate to good. One ate on the rooftop terrace. There is a superb view of the Acropolis. The hotel room furniture was fairly spartan, but acceptable. All carpets in the building should be replaced: They are worn and spotted. New TVs should be installed. The current ones look like models from 1975. There was a smell, like sewer gas, coming into my room from the bathroom. My Greek friends told reception about it, who promised to take care of the problem asap...the smell was much less or absent the rest of my stay. I think I’ll look for another hotel my next visit. The price for a room is too high for what you get. After renovating, I’d think about a second stay.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Cafe and restaurant food in Plaka is overpriced, except cafes near the Roman Forum. Stay away from Omonia north of Plaka. Filled with street people and drugs. Get a list of the museums. Byzantine and Christian Museum, the Benaki Museum and the Cycladic Museum are excllent and not large. Use public transport, get a 7 day pass.

Close to all the sites

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at he Adrian Hotel. Staff we very friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet was delicious, and the location ideal. Rooms are small including a small shower, but very adequate as you don’t spend much time in your room. There are so many great things to see within walking distance.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Use the ’hop on hop off’ bus. They honoured our ticket for more than the 24 hours and it was a great way to get an overview of the central part of Athens and to get to some of the sites a little more out of the way.
