short break in reykavik
my brother and i had a short break in iceland so booked the hotel bjork after reading other reviews.we found the hotel rather hard to find as it seemed to be situated on an industrial estate which doesnt give a good first impression but once inside our opinion changed.the desk staff were friendly and the room comfortable and clean even supplying tea and coffee making facilities which i no alot of far more expensive hotels dont.the hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the centre of town which is fine. if you want it nearer you would have to pay alot more i would suspect.the only down side to the hotel other than the area is lack of car parking for such a large hotel. it doenst have its own car park so you have to park along the street anywhere you can find a space which can mean a long walk back with suitcases and heavy bags etc.the other down side is our room was across the road from an aerobics studio which started to blast its music at 6.30 every morning without fail waking us both up in the process.not the best way to start the day.but if you just want a good valve hotel thats comfortable and clean to sleep in while in iceland you wont go far wrong with the hotel bjork...
the places that have to be seen in the reykavik area are.The blue lagoon.do not miss this unique experience at any cost. The geysirs and the gulfoss waterfall (about a 5 minute drive from each other)and depending on what time of year you go take in a glacier walk.

Hotel Bjork
The hotel is situated around half a mile from the town centre but still has facilities including a number of restaurants around it including the red chilli (mexican) and ruby tuesday (american). There are some public spas close and if you really want public transport. The room was very clean and we had our rooms made every day. Iceland has pure spring water direct to the tap and there is nothing different at the bjork. The beds were decent and there were tea making facilites. We had the room closest the stairwell and could hear the people that were too fit for the lift however we were out of season so there were not so many people to cause any annoyance with their plodding. The hotel serves continental breakfasts in their on site restaurant which was stocked far greater than the number of guests every day. It was very clean (much like all of iceland) and the food was of good quality. The staff were friendly and helpful even sometimes chatty enquiring if we had a good time out. Overall we would recommend the hotel bjork if you do not want the noise of the town centre but want to be close to it and dont mind a ten minute walk.

Would Stay Again
Room was basic, but clean and comfortable. They let us check-in early at 9am after our overnight flight for no additional charge. The location was convenient. It was a bit of a walk to the city center, but very manageable. The hotel was quiet and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was basic but adequate. The food was fresh. The staff was very helpful in booking tours and the buses showed up right on time. We were very pleased with our whole trip and want to go back!
If you have the time, go on the Golden Circle Tour. We used Iceland Excursions, but it seems all of the companies have one and stop at the same places. It takes a full day but it is well worth it for the sights and history. They packed a lot in a day and we got great pictures! Gulfoss and Geysir are incredible! Also, when in Reykjavik, dont miss the $4 elevator ride up the steeple of Hallgrimskirkja (the big church downtown). The city from above is so colorful!!!
