Hasn’t been renovated since 1956

I travel very frequently, however I have never seen anything like this. We had a rotary phone in our room. Our television was incredibly small. The shower spilled water everywhere and it would not drain. The bed linen was from the 1960s. The slide at the pool was rusty. It cost 5 euro to play ping pong at the pool. They charge more than any other hotel I’ve been to for internet use. You must turn in your giant key at the front desk before leaving for the day. And so on. The furniture was from the 50’s or 60’s..and the pictures on the proper website for this hotel are original pictures taken during that time frame and do not accurately represent fifty years of wear and tear. Typically at these types of older hotels, if they are four star rated places, the front desk is very courteous and helpful. I found at least two of the front desk employees to be abrupt and unhelpful when I asked for very minimal requests such as my passport back (they kept it for two days) or a taxi, etc. I must mention that the maids at this hotel work very hard...several times I noticed the quality of the job that they do, however it is a lost cause, this place is a dump and is in bad need of a renovation. The hotel is in a good location, however so are many other, better, less expensive establishments.

Traveller's tip on dining

There is a wonderful seafood restaurant--interior is white, tablecloths white as well right down the street by the marina. I do not recall the name, but it is easy to find. The food is phenominal there.

not impressed

This hotel was not 4 stars. It is very old and outdated. The beds were very old and uncomfortable and the hotel had a stench to it. I would absolutely not recommend it.

This is a very old outdated hotel. More suited for college kids on a budget for spring break. Very uncomfortable.

We would go back to this hotel again

The hotel is situated in a lovely, quiet location a short distance away from the sea (and the noisy road). It is in need of some refurbishment (the decor/furniture is dated but not shabby)but if you can live with that, in every other respect it is a gem! We had a very spacious room with wonderful sea views and access to a large private patio (with deckchairs & sun loungers)leading down to a shared terrace. There was a buffet breakfast and the restaurant offered a superb 4 course dinner for only 15 euros each. (This may have been a seasonal offer). The choice and value was much better than in the town and the service was excellent.Bar prices were also very reasonable.Lovely pool (but salt water- that was a minus)and plenty of sunbeds/towels. Wish I was still there now...

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The nearby ferry goes from Rapallo to Santa Margherita to Portofino to San Frutuoso and vice versa. It leaves frequently, is reasonably priced and is very enjoyable on a hot day. Note: Portofino is pretty but you can see it all in 1 hour. The statue of Christ under the sea is located near San Frutuoso.
