cheap’n’cheerful central hotel

The Hotel Saint George is a very decent hotel in a prominat location a few minutes walk from the central line station I.P. Pavlova. The price we paid was excellent and the inclusion of breakfast was an added bonus. Although the breakfast was a simple continental one, it was better than nothing and kept us going for the morning. We stayed on the 5th floor in what seemed to be an attic room so you could not look out of the window which was a disappointment. We had an ensuite room with a spacious shower, clean toilet and sink. The rooms had temperature controlled dials which seemed to just change whenever they wanted to but neverhteless, it was fine. The room was spacious although the carpets were quite dirty all around the edges, the supposedly double bed was actually 2 singles pushed together with one slightly lower than the other which was awkward. There was an old fashioned tv with many german channels but also an english news channel which was a relief. Overall the hotel was value for money, in a good location with nice staff. The room was overall satisfactory but the hotel in general was nicely decorated inside. I would reccomend this hotel for first timers in Prague as it is easily accessible to other parts of the city due to a close subway and tram stops. It is also walking distance to the popular bar/cafe/club Radost FX which is recommended in all the guide books, as well as shops, restaurants, supermarkets and fast food chains.

I would definately reccomend some Japanese restaurants which are authentic, some not too badly priced and have a nice ambience. Millhouse Sushi in Slovansky Dum has a nice relaxed atmosphere, the food is great but the prices are a bit more than what I have paid in others but that is because its so centrally located. The Green tea ice cream is delicious and is served in a martini glass with fresh fruit. Another recommendation is Hanobi which is just off Namesti Republicly square. Here the atmosphere is calm and relaxed with peaceful music. The food is excellent with waitresses informing you of any specials of the day. The restaurant specialises in Shabu Shabu which is like a large hotpot at your table and a selection of raw meat and vegetables for you to cook yourself. We did not do this on this occasion but have done it before which is a new expereince for westerners. I thoroughly reccomend this restaurant to anybody.

Good hotel

Nice hotel, could walk everywhere even right up to the castle on the other side of town, good breakfreast, lots of nice places to eat nearby including legunda and the caveman steak house (eat with your hands only!!), good price as well.

use the public transport to and from the airport - very cheap!!

Nice Hotel

Hotel Saint George was nice. The room we stayed in(102) was spacious, double bed, sofa and hallway to the ensuite. As we were staying 6 nights the sofa and space made a real difference for us. The room was clean. The shower was excellent. There was a safe which required a deposit and expensive minibar. We brought our own beer and water and stored it in the mini bar fridge. The staff at Hotel were really helpful and friendly, spoke english and went out of their way to help. There was a little traffic noise from the main road outside but it wasn’t too bad and didn’t really bother us-just what you’d expect in a city. On our second last day the internet was out of order when i went to use it so the receptionist sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room. The breakfast was much like any other bread, meats, cheese ect but it was all fresh so no complaints. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk to Wesceslas square and a little further to old town/charles bridge but a nice walk with plenty to take in. We didn’t quite master the trams. Overall I’d definetly recommend hotel Saint George for a stay in Prague. The hotels nice and the staff are lovely.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Avoid eating/drinking in main tourist areas. Wesceslas square and old town are expensive. Check out side street restaurants. Check your change in supermarkets and hotdog stands.Try to use coins as opposed to notes.
