MGM is alright. Central enough. Brash hotel service but good accomodation and wonderful views.
Residence MGM was quite a good residence to stay in. We were given a room which was for 5 people and it still felt like a bit of a tight squeeze for the 3 of us. One small room, a double bedroom and then fold out matresses in the living area. Receptionists were hit and miss. If you had a good one, then they were very helful and if you had a bad one, they rarely smiled and did not provide more than yes or no answers to questions. Breakfast has to be ordered the day before and then collected in the morning. Small selection: croissants, baguettes etc. MGM is well situated to get to the slopes and La Plagne central. Trip up to La Plagne was scary because of windy roads and on the way back, snow made it a bit hazardous so care should be taken on roads. Overall, a great ski experience. We went for the skiing not the hotel and in that sense, we were had a great time.
Better for families but still suits friends, partners etc. Not noisy but can be busy at times.

Check-in a nightmare
We enjoyed our stay at Les Hauts Bois - mostly due to the great snow conditions. However, we arrived at 5pm to check in as instructed only to find that all of the other guests had either done the same, or had checked in earlier and were waiting for keys. We queued for almost an hour - not a good start after a long drive from Calais! The residence itself was great, but we were disappointed that there was no hot tub and the pool was not very warm. This was the first time we had stayed in a purpose built European ski resort, rather than a village, and it did lack a little atmosphere, but the excellent skiing made up for it.
Traveller's tip on dining
The Harlequin served a teriffic New Years feast and try the Mont Blanc for fondu.
