Location. location

location excellent - views from terrace great; 3 minutes to Hippodrome and Blue Mosque. Overall very satisfied, altho breakfasts lack variety (more fresh fruit needed, for instance). Staff very friendly and helpful. Some rooms obviously better than others - we started in 204 but moved to 301 with view of the Sea of Marmara.

Friendly, well-located, clean boutique hotel

We had short stays in Istanbul at either side of our Turkish beach holiday and the Daphne was perfect for this. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, the room was extremely clean and very nicely decorated with a very comfortable, large bed. The view from the window was lovely, looking out over a mosque to the Bosphorus. We were woken up by the call to prayer at 5.55am every morning, which might annoy some people, but just added to our magical experience of Istanbul. The breakfast was plentiful and of a good quality and readily stocked up if running low. The hotel location is perfect, especially if this is your first trip to Istanbul and you want to be near all the sights - the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia are all 5 minutes walk away. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and thought it was extremely good value.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

The area of Sultanahmet, although packed with tourist attractions, is fairly low on bars and restaurants, so don’t got expecting a buzzing nightlife, especially out of season. If you want a taxi, ask reception to book one for you, as then it will be on a meter.

Running Down

Looks like the hotel was renovated in 2004 as all the wine stocks are dated 2004 and some wines (and aspects of this hotel) are now past their best. We had problems with no hot water, faulty wiring in electric plugs, unconnected bath overflow and no aircon in public areas when the temperature was 38 degrees centigrade. We stayed 3 nights and did not have any change of linen. Housekeepers were in room less than 3 minutes and bathroom not cleaned at all during our stay. Towels are threadbare. Breakfast bread handled with bare hands by staff and guests. There was no orange juice at breakfast, only very sweet orange squash. Smoking permitted in reception and lounge despite No Smoking signs. Do not expect food like it shows in the brochure. We had very expensive dried out kebabs with salad, served on a table with a stained white cloth. Staff were very kind and helpful and this made up somewhat for the other failings.

Sultanahmet is where all the tourist attractions are set and this is in easy reach of the Daphne.
