Good location, basic hotel but an ideal base
We stayed at the Boston Hotel in Stresa, for 8 nights. The hotel is fairly basic, but compared to the prices of the bigger hotels in the srea, we got a reasonably good deal. We were really looking for a good base in a location which was central, near the amenities and allow us to travel around easily. We definitely had this with the Hotel Boston. We were 5 minutes from the train station, 5 minutes from the Ferry Terminal, and nearby bus links. The staff were very friendly, although not speaking a great deal of English, they were always very courteous and it was a good opportunity for us to try out our limited Italian! Any problems we had, they were quick to assist. Overall we enjoyed our stay there and we would probably book again.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
We felt it was worthwhile not to hire a car, and used the train, bus and ferry links instead which made our trip enjoyable, stress free and let us see so many sights with no distractions!

Good Location, but not impressed with hotel
The hotel is in a great location to both the train station and the center of Stresa, boat docks, lake front, etc. The room we had was not real clean, not even a single glass (even plastic) in the room. Towels were pretty scary old. The front desk was friendly and helpful and the breakfast that was included was just fine.
