Pleasant manor house near downtown Inverness

A tad hard to find, even with several maps, but worth price and stay as a base to explore area. Three large weddings and a 90th birthday party going on downstairs, but all quiet in our room. We did open a window near sundown, to enjoy a piper warming up for each wedding.

A Bit Isolated, But Very Nice

The Craigmonie is a nice property, but we (my fiance and I) got the impression that it’s a bit off the beaten path. Although only 1/2-mile from downtown Inverness, it’s located on a quiet street of small inns and B&Bs and requires a cab ride to get anywhere. But if you’re looking for quiet location for an extended stay than the Craigmonie will probably suite you well. We only stayed one night, but the staff was extremely helpful. A full Scottish breakfast was included in our room rate, which was nice. The room was clean with plenty of room for our luggage and the bed was very comfortable. The only complaints I have were about the TV and bathroom. The flat-screen TV had a small blue light that comes on in the "off" position; in a larger room it would be no problem, but in a hotel room of that size, it was bright enough to illuminate the entire room to the point where I had trouble sleeping. It didn’t bother my finance, but I finally had to cover the TV screen with a towel. Also, the bathroom light switch is located on the outside wall and can’t be reached from inside the bathroom. As a result, you can’t go to the restroom in the middle of the night without waking up your partner by opening/closing the door to the lighted bathroom. My fiance and I both woke each other up during the night because of this arrangement. There is also an vent fan that runs automatically runs when you close the bathroom door. Unfortunately, it continues to run for 5-10 minutes after you leave the bathroom and turn off the light. Although it eventually turns off, it’s a bit annoying in the middle of the night. We were both fighting a 6-hour time difference and not sleeping very well that night so maybe these things were simply more noticeable as a result. Nonetheless, the Craigmonie is a very nice and comfortable hotel if you’re looking for a quiet locale.
