Not Impressed

This was actually more like a 2 or 2.5 star hotel. The staff was very nice and accomodating, but only one person spoke english (but hey, we were in Italy). 100m walk to the ocean, which was COVERED in rocks. Small bathrooms, only showers, and no ammenities you would expect at a 4 star. We had stayed in a 4 star in Rome, and in comparison this was sad. 160 euro transfer from airport, was lead to believe that it was only half the price. Limited food in immediate area, but there were a few grocery stores as well. Overall not impressed with this hotel, go elsewhere!

lu Bagnu not Castlesardo

Apart from not actually being in Castelsardo then we were really quite happy with this hotel. Food was good, varied and plentiful. A little disappointed to find that toiletries were not renewed, and the beds and pillows a little uncomfortable. However, spotlessly clean with fresh sheets and towels daily. We feel a car was a necessity, with lots of lovely beaches and resorts so close by.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

The half board option saved us lots of money, especially with the fluctuating exchange rate. If hiring a car, make sure before you take it away that you understand how to complete any paperwork, or that you have english translation if you do not read or write italian. Our collision with a tour bus, was very costly, in time and still may be in money. After getting everything, but the drivers star sign, we were told we should have got his signature accepting responsibility - as if!!!

Good room, but misleading description

Hotel room was lovely, very spacious, with good-sized bathroom and the balcony was a very pleasant surprise. However, the location itself (which was meant to be a popular tourist location) was a bit lacking in amenities. Having said that, there were a small number of very nice supermarkets in Lu Bagnu. The hotel was meant to have more than 1 restaurant, but only 1 was open for dinner during the 5 days we were there. The free onsite parking was non-existent. Basically hotel staff advised us to park anywhere on the road outside. We expected a carpark as a bare minimum. The "short" walk to Castelsardo was halted when the footpath came to an abrupt stop, leaving you with a good 15-20 mins of walking on what seemed like quite narrow windy roads. The tv in the room didn’t work for the first 2 days, though this was fixed eventually. There was no local information offered at the hotel, eg day trips, maps, etc. Although all 3 local beaches were picturesque, only one seemed suitable for swimming. (One was covered in broken shells making it uncomfortable underfoot, and the other was quite rocky.) The stay we had was lovely, very peaceful and relaxing, but access to other locations was not as straight forward as expected despite having a hire car.

Traveller's tip

Choose this location for a relaxing (small) beach holiday. Wouldn’t advisse staying here if you want to explore Sardinia unless willing to travel for long periods of time.
