you get what you pay for
We were drawn to this hotel for the price and that should have been an indicator of what we would be getting. Our room was spacious and did have a fanstatic ocean view that was just breathtaking in the morning. There were two issues we had while staying there, the first was minor, the paper thin shower curtain and rod kept falling out of the wall. The second was major and could have really put a dampor on things, apparently when it rains in Malta the winds and rain are so strong that it is common for the windows, doors, etc to leak adn for water to surround your closed and locked doors and windows. This information would have been helpful knowing in advance so we didnt have our luggage right near the door leading to the "balcony". Several of our items were wet influding a saturated carpet that went about 15ft inot the room. The maintence depts idea of fixing the problem after we complained at the front desk was to throw blankets ontop of the wet carpet. Not a pleasant surprize when you come back to your hotel at the end of the day. the location was great, right near a bus line that we took everyday we were there.

Not impressed
I had enjoyed my stay enough until my last night. I asked reception whether it was possible to have just the soup from the buffet menu and was told yes. Afterwards I ordered a coffee from the lobby bar but having returned from the toilet I realised it had been taken away. I decided not to cause a fuss and to simply settle my bill and go to bed. However, night reception tried charging me 15.50 Euros for the soup from the full menu price of 20 Euros, which after he spoke to the restaurant was reduced to 7 Euros, and then again, by the duty manager, to 2.5 Euros, with me having been refusing to pay. In the middle of this debacle a large party of Irish holiday makers arrived to try and check-in, including children, and must have wondered what on Earth was going on. So I settled the bill and returned to my room and was in bed by approximately 10.00pm. However, I did not sleep until the early hours of the morning, for a couple of hours or so at most. I spent most of the night listening to people shouting things outside the hotel, before I arose at 5.45am to get a Taxi to the airport, which I had booked with reception earlier in the previous day. This has left me tired and deflated and I do not wish to return to Malta even though on my last trip I gained dual Maltese Citizenship.

Tired hotel best suited to large groups
I found the hotel to be tired, with room having bare minimum fitout - bathrooms tired, and need updating. The restaurant is in the basement - had one dinner there, and breakfast for 3 days. Institutional is the best description, and very tired, minimal choice. The hotel does not have an internal laundry, and if you put laundry out the hotel has a world leading 48 hour response time. Very tired, institutionalised, no money being spent on it - its cheap, but not good value.
