We went to the Bel Air Plantation on our Honeymoon. I must say that it exceeded our expectations.

My wife and I were looking for a honeymoon that allowed us to be away from touristy areas, enjoy the natural beauty of the raw local Caribbean and still be close enough to drive to nightlife and great restaurants. Well, Bel Air Plantation in Grenada was amazing. The resort is less of a resort and more of your own private home on a breathtaking hillside looking over the bay. The restaurant on the premises was fantastic (I recommend the Calaloo soup and vegetarian peas). The room was immaculate, beautiful and the bed and linens were the most comfortable I have ever felt. They also have a beautiful pool with a breathtaking view of the bay as you swim. We rented a car to get us into St. George and to many amazing local beaches. You must be confident with driving on the left and on narrow, winding roads. If you don’t plan on renting a car, the resort can help you find a taxi service and recommend places for you to go.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

A beautiful beach was right down the road. La Sagesse. We went during off season, and had the beach practically to ourselves. Make sure you hike Mt. Qua Qua rainforest and feed the Mona Monkeys. The monkeys eat the bananas right from your hand and you can purchase them right there. Also, if you are in good shape and daring head to Seven Sisters waterfalls and find a local guide (really, don’t do it on your own). Best restaurant on the island is True Blue Bay Restaurant at Dodgy Dock.

a perfect hideaway!

the individual cottages are well spread out on quite a steep hill - with steps up or down to your individual cottage so really not suitable for those not able to walk well, with the reception and restaurant being down at the bottom of the hill, and the lovely infinity pool and cottages being half way up. we found it a very peaceful, private and pretty place - overlooking the harbour - and was ideal for bird watching from our balcony. the beach was disappointing, but free transport was offered to go to and from a better beach at La Sagesse nature centre - 8 mins away. you could also walk over the hill and get there in half and hour. the receptionist was most helpful with nothing too much trouble and nice with it! the food at the restaurant was very good, with a varied menu - however the service could be slow -so order the food before the drinks and chill out for the wait in their observation room or in the attractive gardens!

Traveller's tip on shopping

the small onsite shop had the basics for snacks and light meals if you were cooking - we weren’t - so don’t know whether a range of meat, and fresh veg was available. the souvenirs were very limited so a trip to St George’s - the capital- would be wanted anyway for the interest anyway
