Not what it was
I have stayed at the River Inn for years, because of its proximity to the Kennedy Center. But its service has gone down in recent years, and the lack of full-day room service and restaurant - especially on weekends - is a real problem in that part of town. I put a breakfast order on my doorknob well in advance of 2 am, and it was not picked up at all - I heard that the same had happened the previous weekend. The kitchenette facilities are great, if youre going to be there a long time, but I cant recommend for a stay of only one or two nights.

A Pleasant Stay
Grteat hotel in a great location, especially if youre interested in staying near Georgetown. If you are looking to be close to the other DC attractions (Smithsonian, White House, etc.), you will need to take the Metro but the stop is very close to the hotel (a few blocks). Only complaint is that the water was not hot in the morning for either me and my companion. And the air condition was turned off so they had to give fans to all of the guests. I didnt mind this although with the price of the hotel I thought they should have given a reduction just for good will.
Take a walk around the neighborhood--its nice. Go up to Georgetown for dinner. Take the Metro from Foggy Bottom to Smithsonian stop and walk around the Mall, see the museums. Sunday mornings were nice to walk around Georgetown.
