Wonderful hotel in Durham
The Washington Duke Inn is conventiently located for visiting the Duke campus or any other location in Durham. It is beautifully situated with the golf course, walking trails and gardens surrounding this property. The inn itself is always kept in immaculate condition and elegantly furnished. The restaurants are also attractive and the food is top notch. This is my "go to" hotel when visiting the area.

A treat!
Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club is just off the Duke West Campus entrance. It seeks to be a five star hotel but tends to come up short in my experience. While the lobby was beautiful, my room had some deficiencies. I was woken up around 3am because of a very loud noise in the HVAC system that could only be addressed if you turned off the system - which left my room somewhat stuffy. What was nice, though, was that I could at least open my windows. In addition, when I opened the minibar to get out the network cable for my laptop, I noticed that there was an open can of Heineken left at the back of the bar - which made me wonder who checks these things. The bathroom is just average - which at the price level is somewhat surprising. It definitely had problems keeping constant water temperature as others in neighboring rooms were taking showers. Check in and check out could also be easier. And on the way in or out I was not greeted or thanked for coming to the hotel by the bellmen standing around and looking. Minor issues, but important ones for a hotel that can charge quite a bit for its rooms.

Expect a great inn — you won’t be disappointed at Washington Duke.
If you are familiar with Duke University Medical Center you know that they set the standards for excellence in medical care. Washington Duke Inn does for hotel standards what DUMC does for medical standards. The inn itself and their accommodations are superior. Their food was outstanding, the service great, and the view from the dining terrace was unbeatable as it overlooked a perfectly manicured golf course. A great experience for my wife and me.
