Welcomed Relief

We had spent 12 days on a tour across Europe. We were so happy to arrive at the Hotel New York, as it was comparable to a ’typical US Hotel room’. Comfortable Bed, spacious room, nice view. The staff even accommodated my request for ’one large bed’. There was a bit of a language barrier and staff seemed to have some challenges understanding our ’US English’. But by this point in the trip we were used to it. The pool is very kid-friendly - but not a place to relax for adults. Lots of characters - I ran into Goofy on three separate occasions in the hallways.

Would recommend - fab location, great breakfast

As with all Disney hotels it’s over-priced for what it is, but you have to just accept that this is the case with all of them. Reception staff were v friendly, efficient and helpful. Check in was v fast. Main hotel areas very well maintained and clean. Rooms less so, ours was a family room and was in need of a lick of paint and a more thorough clean but comfortable, spacious enough for what we needed. Note - no kettle tea/coffee making facilities in the room and hairdryer was v feeble wall mounted contraption. Breakfast was excellent and not the cattle market I had expected given some reviews on other sites. Well organised and plenty of food whatever time you arrived. Pool was cold, but smaller toddler pool was OK and changing rooms, steam and sauna rooms all great. Very conveniently situated for the Disney village which meant we could pop back during the day if needed (which was a bonus with a tired toddler!). Overall would recommend this hotel.

Get a private taxi from the airport - same price as the shuttle bus and arrives 1/2 hr earlier - so you beat the hotel check in queues.

Nice on the surface but ...

The hotel looked fine on arrival as did the room. However, the day before we left I dropped a pen under the bedside table and was appalled at what I found when I moved it to retrieve the pen - there was a thick layer of dust and ash (which was also evident behind the TV cabinet.) If either have been moved, never mind cleaned behind, in the last two years, I’d be surprised. However, by then it felt too late to change rooms. Ice-skating seemed like an attractive aspect to the hotel but the skates were so hopelessly blunt that they were nearly dangerous. We changed our hire skates three times, then gave up. The lady behind the desk just shrugged at our complaints and said the sharpening machine was broken. Breakfast was ok but a bit limited for the price. Overall Disney needs look hard at this hotel - it may have been stunning ten years ago but it’s now more than a bit manky under the surface.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Check under the bedside cabinet before you accept the room! Take your own skates.
