Beautiful views from a lovely peaceful hotel
Taormina is a wonderful place to visit and the Bel Soggiorno an ideal place to stay to enjoy it. The hotel has excellent views over Giardini-Naxos with Etna as a backdrop. Save a large taxi fare from the airport and take a coach from there (blue operated by ETNA) for E5.40 per person. It passes by the hotel and about a half mile further on in the same road (after a few more hairpins) terminates at the Taormina bus station. You can walk back from the bus station along the road (about a 12 minute walk) but take care as for much of it there is no pavement! Our room was always kept immaculately clean and had a large double bed. Whilst the bed was firm it was still very comfortable. Our room opened onto a very large shared terrace looking over the sea and had a large round table, two chairs and two new sunloungers. Breakfast, served immediately below us, was always varied and there is a choice of sitting outside or in the large breakfast room. Dont expect good TV (local Italian programmes only). The staff were all polite and very helpful. To get to the town is an energetic walk so you need to be quite fit. After climbing out of the hotel drive, a short walk to the right leads to a series of steps that take you away from the main road and into the centre of Taormina, a great way to start the day. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and not having a restaurant for evening meals in the hotel is no disadvantage as there are many restaurants to choose from in Taormina.
Traveller's tip on dining
For a very good restaurant with great service, try Al Giardino reviewed by me for Trip Advisor. It is situated opposite Taorminas lovely public gardens signposted as the Villa Comunale. Youll pass by it on the way into Taormina from the hotel.

Amazing views and great hospitality
Albergo Bel Soggiorno is a gem! Carlo and his staff were gracious and accommodating. The hotel is full of charm - from the incredible views to the lovely breakfast (with fresh figs from the garden!) our stay couldnt have been more comfortable. The rooms are generously sized and spotlessly clean. If youre wondering why the cost of this hotel is less than most in Taormina, my guess would be that its because of the location. A bit "downhill" from the town center, guests must climb a particularly long set of stairs to reach the main streets. We were jokingly referring to them as the Spanish Steps of Taormina. For what its worth, I worked off all the food I ate (constantly) and didnt gain any weight during our visit. Cab rides into the town center arent practical as theres a set 10 euro fee and, for a 3 minute ride, its a very poor value. Were I to stay at Bel Soggiorno again, I think Id rent a scooter.
