OK hotel but avoid the restaurant

The accomodation was acceptable - nothing special but clean and well sited near the centre of the town. It looks terrible on he outside mind. If you get a room on the road side you may struggle to sleep with the window open. The restaurant however was a total disaster, so bad it was comical. A terse waiter that stank of cigarettes, food that had somehow skipped the food revival in this country and was hanging on to the 1970s school meal ethos. To summarise... anaemic chicken liver pate on rotten salad and sliced white bread; steak and ale pie which was a stew topped with pre-cooked puff pastry and amazingly the meat was dry (how is that possible?). I was the youngest by 30 years in the place and the only non-grey haired diner (all 3 other tables) so I guess it may be catering to others’ taste but by far the worse experience in 20 years of eating out!!

Traveller's tip on dining

Eat anywhere else but in the hotel restaurant!!!

Great location

Good breakfast kept us full for several hours. Room was spacious. Beds were comfortable, but bathroom was a bit tired eg sink was cracked, though shower was great once I understood how it worked!

good location to explore the City

Needs a refurbishment

Whilst the room was generally comfortable the general decor of the hotel was aged and in need of a serious refurb - dated furnishings, decor and layout were a disappointment for such a centrally located hotel. Breakfast was limited in options, presented on ageing crockery, and slow to be served. Parking was limited on site. Hotel does not compare well on value to other options in the area.
