It was a shame
After reading a few reviews about the Eden Arms I had a bit of trepidation about staying there. When we arrived, however I was impressed. I thought for a 3* hotel that the rooms were nice, that the hotels facilities were good and generally I was pleased. There were however a couple of things that let the place down. We ordered lunch from the room service menu and then was called back and informed that we could only actually have cold sandwiches, despite the varied menu on offer. The next morning we had ordered breakfast in our bedroom, but was again phoned 15 minutes before it was due to be told that if we wanted breakfast in our room that it would cost an extra 7.95/person to do so. We clearly dispute that it warrants 16 for a person to carry a tray upstairs, especially when they have information in the rooms saying that breakfast in the room will incur an extra cost of 2.50. It was very clear that they did not want to serve food to the rooms on both of the occassions we tried to get room service, which was a shame because it did let down an otherwise nice hotel.

A pleasant break
Hotel clean and staff welcoming but room (no 52) was very small, well equipped though (impressed with the "nuclear fusion" radiator). Dinner menu reasonable and food to most peoples tastes. Leisure facilities a bonus for the price of stay.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Handy for Durham and Darlington. Not much to see/do or places to eat in the immediate vicinity. However the jewel in the crown was the Bayleaf Indian restaurant in Ferryhill. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We have eaten in numerous indian restaurants, across Europe, over the last 30 years and this is in the top 3!
