Come aboard a 49-foot (15-meter) catamaran and get ready for an activity-packed cruise. As the yacht leaves the wharf, feel free to help the crew set sail or to take a turn at the helm. Or just relax and keep an eye out for the local bird and sea life, such as penguins, gannets, petrels, kingfish—and, of course, wild dolphins. The Carino is the only yacht that the Department of Conservation has licensed for interaction with dolphins in their natural habitat. Keep in mind, however, that any interaction—especially swimming—is dependent on the dolphins' willingness to participate, so be ready to enjoy them from a slight distance.
An island stopover provides opportunities to snorkel (instruction and equipment are provided); take nature walks; play beach games, including Frisbee, volleyball, and boules; or just relax in the sun. Lunch is a Kiwi-style barbecue accompanied by a full cash bar. Once lunch is over, it's back to the yacht for more sailing, accompanied by an informal commentary on historical and geographical points of interest in the Bay of Islands.
