Commack Holidays, New York, United States of America

Commack’s 133-acre Hoyt Farm Park Preserve features a reproduction of the Native American wigwam, which dotted Long Island before European colonists arrived. The park’s forest is a bird sanctuary. The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is based in Commack. North of town, the Gov. Alfred E. Smith/Sunken Meadow State Park offers a three-mile beach and seasonal cross-country skiing.

Glen Cove Holidays, New York, United States of America

From the Astors to the Vanderbilts, America’s moneyed elite settled in and around Glen Cove, the so-called “Gold Coast”, in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The town’s storied past is visible at the Webb Institute’s Stevenson Taylor Hall, once an oil magnate’s mansion, and waterfront Morgan Park. To honor his wife, robber baron J.P. Morgan leased the parkland to the city for $1 for 999 years.

Hamptons Holidays, New York, United States of America

Every summer, Hollywood celebrities and Manhattan power brokers descend on the Hamptons to while away time at mammoth, ocean-side homes. Their wealth and fame bring exclusivity, as well as the paparazzi and gossip columnists. However, mere mortals can enjoy the area beaches, sand dunes, and quaint Main Street, which features high-end boutiques such as Gucci and Tiffany & Co.

Hauppauge Holidays, New York, United States of America

This hamlet is best known for the Hauppauge Industrial Park, the largest industrial complex east of the Mississippi, with 1,300 companies and more than 55,000 workers. Nearby, the Nissequogue River flows from Caleb Smith State Park to the sound, creating a habitat for a range of bird species. South of town is the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, created by Central Park designer Frederick Olmstead Law.

Montauk Holidays, New York, United States of America

Like a fingertip, Montauk juts into the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island’s east end. Here, families head to area beaches, many of which offer calm waters perfect for kids. Larger waves break at Ditch Plains Beach, which surfers favor. Nearby, Montauk Point State Park is a haven for birds and seals; whales also swim off the coast. The park’s lighthouse is the Montauk’s best-known landmark.

Port Jefferson Holidays, New York, United States of America

Ships were king in Port Jefferson in the 1800s. As Suffolk County’s largest shipbuilding center, two of every five ships that sailed the Long Island sound were built in Port Jefferson. The Mather House Museum highlights this history. Today, the town is best known as the base for the Bridgeport, Connecticut, ferry. Stony Brook University, part of The State University of New York system, is nearby.

Riverhead Holidays, New York, United States of America

Agriculture is a growth industry in Riverhead. More than half of this area is devoted to produce farming. The North Fork region, northeast of Riverhead, has more than two-dozen vineyards. Wines such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and chardonnay are made locally. Riverhead’s other highlights include the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium and the Dinosaur Walk Museum.

Rockville Centre Holidays, New York, United States of America

About 30 minutes by train from Midtown Manhattan, the village of Rockville Centre serves as a bedroom community for New York City. This suburb is convenient to both John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports. Rockville Centre sits near the shores of Hempstead Lake, a popular local fishing spot. Nearby attractions include Belmont Park horse racing track and Museum Row in Garden City.

Ronkonkoma - Long Island MacArthur Airport Holidays, New York, United States of America

Ronkonkoma is directly north of Long Island MacArthur Airport, better known as Islip. The Long Island Railroad connects this hamlet with the rest of the island and Manhattan. South of the airport along the coast, ferries depart for Fire Island, a summer getaway popular among gays and lesbians. In nearby West Sayville, the Long Island Maritime Museum honors the area’s seafaring and whaling history

Woodbury - Plainview Holidays, New York, United States of America

Woodbury and Plainview are two neighboring hamlets within the Town of Oyster Bay. One of the area’s main attractions is Bethpage State Park. This recreation area contains five golf courses, including the famed Black Course, which has hosted the U.S. Open championship. Neighboring West Hills was home to America’s greatest poet, Walt Whitman. His birthplace is a preserved national landmark.
