Costa Teguise Holidays, Spain

Developed in the late 1970s as a luxury holiday playground, Costa Teguise is today no longer exclusive, but remains a very popular family resort. Low-rise apartments and smart hotels face onto a sheltered bay favoured by windsurfers – novices and experts alike. Its busy nightlife clusters around an “old village”-style square. Lanzarote’s only water park and its one golf club (a picturesque 18-hole course) lie within the resort’s boundaries.

Playa Blanca Holidays, Spain

The original port and fishing village maintain an agreeable low-key buzz with good bars and restaurants, but it is the beaches that make Playa Blanca famous. West of the centre, on past the new and expanding fashionable Marina Rubicón, and a clutch of luxury hotels, lie the island’s finest golden white coves, known collectively as the Papagayo beaches. Three small cafes are the only development in this protected area.

Puerto del Carmen Holidays, Spain

The island’s biggest and busiest resort has two very different faces. Along the beachfront is a three-kilometre long, unbroken strip of shops, restaurants and night spots. By contrast, the old port is a picturesque spot busy with fishing and pleasure boats, and overlooked by restaurants and bars, many occupying a lofty balcony position on the hill. Adjacent, the swish marina of Puerto Calero offers excursions by yacht, submarine or catamaran.
