North Delhi is also known as Old Delhi. Regarded as the capital of Muslim India from the early centuries, it is home to a number of forts, monuments, and mosques. This fortified city has a long and remarkable history. This area was on one occasion bounded by strong protective walls, of which only fragments remain. Even these days, the remains of its magnificent history can be spotted in Kashmiri Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Turkman Gate, and Delhi Gate. North Delhi is further characterized by the bazaar of Chandni Chowk, one of India's most famous wholesale and retail markets, situated opposite to the Red Fort, and by the Jama Masjid which is the biggest mosque in India. A tour of North Delhi is all about age-old buildings, crowded lanes, an array of food, and lively bazaars. Visitors can enjoy shopping for electronic goods, jewellery, stationery, footwear, and woolens at reduced rates.

South Delhi is the area south of Connaught Place and Rajpath. This area has great historical and cultural importance. Hauz Khas, a shopper's paradise, is also home to historical monuments such as a madarsa (college), tombs, and a mosque built by Firoz Shah Tughluq, a ruler of the Tughlaq Dynasty. South Delhi also offers a number of leisure activities including golf, jogging, and swimming.
