The historic old town, influenced by 400 years of Danish rule, has many 13th-17th century buildings, and is home to the city’s cultural attractions. The 34 kilometre long firth is popular for water sports year round, especially sailing, while there are also adjacent cycling and walking paths.

The saline waters have reputed therapeutic qualities and there are numerous spas, clinics, saunas and a large swimming complex with indoor pools and a waterslide. The Sea Life Centre has a deep-sea tank with a glass tunnel running through it. The white sand beach offers numerous water sports as well as scuba diving.
