Cap dEze Holidays, France Menton Holidays, France Monaco - Monte Carlo Holidays, Monaco
Cap d'Ail Holidays, France

Just west of Monaco on the Basse Corniche, the Cap d’Ail is a popular spot for swimming off pretty pebbly coves (the best is Mala Plage). Wooded slopes behind the seafront screen sumptuous belle-époque residences – one was once owned by Greta Garbo – but Cap d’Ail is less exclusive than some resorts on this glamorous stretch of coastline. Public access to the shore is allowed at Point des Douaniers.

Eze Holidays, France

Eze is a classic ‘village perché’, hugging a hilltop around a ruined medieval castle with cactus-filled gardens offering dazzling views. Though traffic-free, Eze is always crowded in summer. A picture-postcard maze of narrow streets winds round the 18th-century Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs containing enamel panelling and a 13th-century crucifix. A steep path leads down to the seafront and the resort extension of Eze-sur-Mer.

Menton Holidays, France

A genteel Riviera resort next to the Italian border, Menton is famed for its balmy winter climate and exotic gardens. The old town rises steeply from the shore against a scenic mountain backdrop. Museums include the Musée Jean Cocteau, housed in a 17th-century fort by the port, which displays mosaics, ceramics, tapestries, drawings and other works by the artist. Menton’s Shrovetide lemon festival inspires some spectacular floats.

Monaco - Monte Carlo Holidays, Monaco

Measuring less than two square kilometres, the principality of Monaco is ruled by the world’s oldest reigning family, the Grimaldi dynasty. This is a true millionaire’s playground – its citizens pay no tax and enjoy the world’s highest per capita income. The pretty old town Monaco Ville huddles around the prince’s palace and cathedral. Monte Carlo’s glitzy high-rises and luxury shops cram the slopes behind the port. Don’t miss the wedding-cake casino. Visit in May for the Grand Prix.
