Attractions

Ses Salines

With a mile of powdery white sand backed by dunes and pine trees, this is an idyllic spot. Families occupy the northern end while the south is the island’s most fashionable place to pose. The landmark bar is Sa Trinxa where DJ Jon gets beach bunnies kicking up some sand. Beyond lies a string of tiny sandy coves.

Formentera

Ibiza’s neighbouring island is the perfect day trip, just a 30-minute hydrofoil ride from Ibiza port. After docking at La Savina hire a moped or bicycle and head to the northern tip, across a 500ft sandbank, to the islet of Espalmador where you can spend an afternoon in the natural mud baths and lounging on white sand dunes.

Museums

Museu Arqueològic d'Eivissa i Formentera

The archaeological museum has historical remains from the first settlers to the Catalan conquest in the 12th century, covering a period of more than 3,000 years. Currently set inside the Santa Tecla bulwark of the old city’s fortified walls, the museum will reopen its newly renovated holdings in the Necropolis (Vía Romana 31) in 2007, including recent findings from the nearby Punic cemetery of Puig des Molins.

Natural Wonders

Ses Salines

These spectacular salt pans stretch across 1,000 acres in the south of the island and are why Ibiza is known as the ‘White Island’. The Phoenicians developed the naturally occurring salt flats in this area and, until the advent of mass tourism, salt production was Ibiza’s primary source of wealth for more than 2,000 years. Still producing salt commercially, the pans are also a natural reserve full of birds and indigenous plant life.

Nightlife

Pacha

Here’s where it all started: probably the world’s most successful clubbing brand, and the original Pacha is still king pin on its home ground. Unashamedly expensive and exclusive with a beautiful roof terrace, 15 bars and opulent VIP areas, its weekly nights include ‘Release Yourself on Mondays’ with Roger Sanchez, Tuesday’s excellent ‘Defected in the House’ party and ‘Pure Pacha’ on Fridays with Pete Tong.

Restaurants

La Brasa

Set in an idyllic shaded garden, with bright flowers and billowing palms, La Brasa has a romantic feel with comfortable cushioned banquettes and candlelit tables set against the old fortress walls. Mediterranean dishes of roast meats, leafy salads and plenty of fresh fish and seafood dominate the menu. For dessert try Carmen’s exotic cactus fruit pudding.
