Family holidays in Italy
Italy is an extremely varied country, with mountains and skiing in the north, beautiful coastlines and islands in the south, stunning cities, an almost endless list of fascinating galleries and museums, and fantastic Mediterranean weather and food. Best of all, Italian culture is extremely accepting of families and children.
When to go
Spring and autumn are great times to visit, when the weather is pleasant and the cities and countryside less busy than in high summer.
Top tip
Be sure to check the opening times of museums, cathedrals and historic sites.
Food
Italian food requires little introduction. Often cheap and nearly always delicious, Italian cooking boasts renowned cheeses, fresh vegetables, cured meats, fish and seafood and, of course, pizza and pasta. When it comes to restaurants, the busier the better, and the vast majority will go out of their way to cater to and entertain your children.
Entertainment
Entertainment in Italy shouldn’t be a problem - your greatest difficulty will most likely be trying to fit it all in. The cities boast some of the world’s finest galleries and museums, the beautiful countryside is endlessly walk-able, and children will delight in the numerous beaches and water sports. And, if you go in winter, Italy also offers excellent skiing and snowboarding.
