Family holidays in Canary Islands
The Canary Islands offer a safe, sunny and varied destination for family travel. The tropical climate provides year-round sun, the beaches are numerous, clean and uncrowded, and the diversity of landscapes boasted by the numerous islands promise something for all of the family.
When to go
The weather in the Canary Islands is pleasant all year round, with winter to spring the most popular times to visit.
Top tip
Hire a car and explore the beautiful countryside away from the main resorts.
Food
Typical Canarian cuisine features fresh fish, papas arrugadas (potatoes cooked in sea water) and salsa mojo, a spicy, garlic-tinted tomato sauce. If this isn’t to your children’s tastes, the more familiar foods of Western Europe and Spain are also readily available. Younger diners are more than welcome at most restaurants, but finding high chairs is not always easy.
Entertainment
The Canary Islands have plenty of activities for children and adults alike - the main difficulty you'll face is choosing which to do first. The islands offer amusement parks, water parks, horse-riding, boat trips, mountain biking, medieval castles and Cocodrilo Park, which is home to more than 300 crocodiles, tropical fish and tarantulas.
