Family holidays in Australia
When it comes to family travel, Australia is a giant playground, and will keep your children mesmerized from the second they arrive. Sydney offers everything you’d expect from a capital city, but without feeling overwhelming, while the West Australian coastline is one of the most beautiful in the world. And if neither beaches nor the Great Barrier Reef take your family’s fancy, Ayers Rock and the wildlife and Aboriginal rock art found at Kakadu are quite unforgettable.
When To Go
Sydney's an all year round destination, but if you want to avoid high humidity and the ocasional downpour avoid between Oct and March.
Top Tip
Explore the Blue Mountains and sample some Australian seafood, Sydney is packed with great restaurants. It is illegal for babies to travel in a car with no fixed car seat in Cairns.
Food
Australia used to have a reputation for having inherited stodgy British cuisine, including hefty meat pies, but the influence of Asian cooking is increasingly important, and Australian food is now some of the most diverse in the world. The barbeque is still fairly sacred, but you certainly won’t have to worry about your children surviving solely on a diet of kangaroo burgers...!
Entertainment
It won’t be difficult to keep your family entertained in Australia. Sydney’s metropolitan attractions, such as the iconic Opera House, harbour and the Art Gallery of New South Wales are excellent, while the beaches and conditions for water-sports along the lengthy coastline are some of the finest in the world. The exotic wildlife and natural beauty of the interior will keep your kids fascinated, too.
