Futuristic for its time, the Space Needle, built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, was painted "astronaut white," "re-entry red," and "galaxy gold." You can best view this pop icon and the downtown skyline against the backdrop of Mount Rainier (when it's "out") from Kerry Park on nearby Queen Anne Hill. The park also makes a good vantage point for watching the Fourth of July fireworks explode over Elliott Bay.
