Art for the masses
Hammering Man, a 48-foot-tall work by artist Jonathan Borofsky, mechanically raises and lowers his hammer, symbolising the underpaid worker left behind by today's high-tech world. It heralds the entrance to the downtown Seattle Art Museum, which hosts the city's premier art exhibits; admission is free the first Thursday of each month. Walk uphill behind SAM to see Benaroya Hall, the Seattle Symphony's elegant new home.
