Few cities boast cosy houseboat communities like those found on Seattle's Lake Union. Rent a kayak and paddle by these colourful floating homes, made famous by the 1993 movie Sleepless in Seattle. Some are old and quaint; others reflect the city's growing wealth. You can sail back in time at the Center for Wooden Boats on the lake's south shore, where nearby downtown seems a world away.
