Upper Manhattan's favourite haven is the Cloisters. The museum's tranquil courtyards are as much of a draw as the medieval art inside. Set in leafy Fort Tryon Park (which, like Central Park, was designed by the Olmsted firm), the Cloisters is constructed of parts of medieval European buildings brought to New York by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. He deeded the museum and the parkwith its superlative views of the Hudson Riverto the city during the Depression.
