Photogenic Emerald Bay on Tahoe's California (west) side contains the lake's only island, Fannette Island, part of Emerald Bay State Park. The park also features the medieval-inspired Vikingsholm "castle," built in the late 1920s. Divers can explore sunken historic barges here in the state's first underwater shipwreck park.
