Café culture
Young group sitting at cafe table on sidewalk in Paris
  Bob Handelman/Stone
Pavement cafés are what Paris is all about. Meet friends for a drink or linger alone over a café au lait—while you can. The smoky Left Bank hangouts of Sartre and Hemingway are fast disappearing as upper-end fashion boutiques move in. You can still find aspiring writers and artists in the bohemian cafés and bookstores of the Latin Quarter, centred around the Place St-Michel.
