Red Earth, yellow feathers
A dancer prepares to perform at a Native American gathering in Oklahoma City This dancer readies for a performance at the Red Earth powwow in Oklahoma City. Until recently surpassed by California, Oklahoma was home to more Native Americans than any other state. Many are descendents of the Cherokees who were forced to march to Oklahoma from Georgia on the infamous "Trail of Tears" in the 1830s. Visit the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee to learn more.
