Pastel houses in the Bahamas
  Tony Arruza/CORBIS
Colourful pastel houses, some clapboard and some stone with conch-shell plaster, liven the landscape of many island towns. Bahamian architecture was greatly influenced by British loyalists who fled the newly formed United States in the late 1700s. Spanish Wells and New Plymouth are two Bahamian towns with Cape Cod-like charm.
