Week 4

|
Whitehaven Beach is situated in the group of islands off the Queensland coast - the Whitsundays - one of the premier tourist destinations in Australia. There are many varied tours that take place in the area and a great percentage of them try to include Whitehaven in their itineraries. This focus on this beach is understandable - it's a beautiful stretch of the purest silica sand you are ever likely to find.
For a stunning view, choose a trip that goes to Hill Inlet at the far north end of the beach. After a little climb you can reach a lookout and from there, on a bright, clear day, the view is simply breathtaking. At certain stages of tide, the inlet becomes a swirling painting of white and endless shades of green.
If you venture into the sea, it's advisable to wear stinger suits to keep the risks of being stung by the tiny, near invisible irukandji jellyfish to a minimum. But don't let this stop you visiting the area - it's a must!
