Week 6

|
Waikiki Beach is a bustling tourist centre with all the usual features, from fast food outlets to souvenir shops. However, walk a little further and you can also find upmarket shopping malls and high-class fashion boutiques.
There are plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants to satisfy most tastes but if you ever want to get out of the fast lane, you can hire a car and go and find the quieter areas around the island of Oahu.
Waikiki plays host to a varied mix of beach goers (from spring break college kids to elderly sightseers), huge hotels, good weather and great surf on nearby shores - it's the flagship of beach cities. If you like beaches to be busy but safe, and you like to know that all the usual fast food joints are just a short walk away, then this place is for you.
If you do one thing on Waikiki, make sure you hire a surf board from one of the famous "Waikiki Beach Boys". With Waikiki being home to the famous Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, the Hawaiian Olympic swimmer, lifesaver and the man who introduced surfing to the world, there's no better place to hit the waves!
And to finish off the day, check out one of the hotel beach bars and watch the most amazing sunsets, drink in hand.
